Depersonalize Your House

The goal is to make it easy for a potential buyer to see the house as their future home.

Pack up personal photographies and excess of decorations. The goal is to make the buyers imagine the home decorated with their own photographs, furniture, and art objects. Depersonalizing your home makes a huge difference when selling; Less things they see, less distraction they will experience

____________

Declutter Your House

Almost all home looks bigger with less furnitures. Start by filtering the items that you don’t want anymore. If you haven’t touched them is years they might just not be very important anymore!

Then, take off all unusual object that are laying around. You can boxed them up and put them in a storage room while the selling process.

Also, remove books from bookcases and other knickknacks, and clean everything off your kitchen counters. Essential items that you use daily can be tucked away in small boxes that you can place in a closet when they're not in use. Consider this process an efficient start to your packing.

  • You can consider handing out items in a useful way by donating them to a charity or nonprofit organization such as the Salvation Army or Goodwill.

TIPS : Consider renting a storage unit if you have too many boxes and haven’t decided where you will bring them.

____________

Make Minor Repairs

Depending on the current market we are in, most of the time making minor repairs can make or break a sale. Replace counter tiles if they are damaged, patch any holes in the walls, paint your front door and garage door if needed. Those are excellent items to repair and it will make a bug difference. Before showings, throw open the curtains and blinds and turn on those lights. Houses show better when each room is clean and bright.

TIP: Replace burned-out light bulbs and make sure they are all efficient. It will make the rooms look brighter.

_____________

Make the House Sparkle

Make sure your home is clean and ready to show. Kitchens are a big selling point for many buyers, so make yours as spotless and welcoming as possible. Clean all surfaces, for example your appliances, cabinets, and countertops. Clean the windows in and out if its spring, it is the best time to clean them and get your property ready for sale. Hang up fresh and an new carpet in the bathroom if needed and avoid keeping the toilet lid open

In summer, make sure your front and back yard grass is cut and if you have time, plant some yellow or bright flowers by the front door.

In winter, throw some salt on your front entrance. It will be safer and easier for them to visit your home.

TIP: Light up some candles and air fresheners or throw in the oven some cookies, it will make welcoming impression when the buyers will enter your property. Remember the first impression is what they will remember!

Painting the Interior

I suggest repainting your walls for a soft neutral colour, if you haven't painted in a while. I always suggest to my clients a white colour since it is very clean and it never gets outdated! Painting is an inexpensive way of staging your home and to make it more attractive to buyer's.
